Class Descriptions

Communing with God through the SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES (Session 1 & 3)

Ever wonder what it actually looks like to commune with God?  This class is for you!  Three seemingly unremarkable principles shape our communion with God: listening to God’s voice, speaking to him in prayer, and joining together with his people as a church. These everyday “habits of grace” give us access to God’s love and power – including the greatest joy of all, knowing and enjoying Jesus.

Teachers:  Gregg Stout, Leon Palmer, and Ryan Dennis

Book:  Habits of Grace by David Mathis

Room:  9B

Communing with God WHEN HE SPEAKS (Session 1 & 2)

When we go to church or our small group, what are we most excited about?  Is it the relational connections, or the food, or the music?  All good things!  But what if we were most excited about the Creator God speaking to us, through His Word?  This class will focus on the life-transforming power that is unleashed “When He speaks” – from the pulpit, in our homes, and on every occasion that the Bible is opened.

Teachers:  Geoff Cornwall, Scott Phillips, and Paul Jackson

Book:  Word-Centered Church by Jonathan Leeman

Room: 8B

Communing with God through PRAYER (Session 2 & 4)

Let’s face it, prayer can be hard!  We want to pray but often find that, for various reasons, we neglect this important spiritual practice.  And then when we neglect it, our lives can be marked by fear, anxiety, joylessness, and spiritual lethargy.  But what if prayer is easier and more powerful than you ever imagined?  If you want to know the joy and power of a vibrant prayer life, consider taking this class.

Teachers:  Dave French, Ryan Holman, and Mike Zender

Book:  A Praying Life by Paul Miller

Room: 9B

Communing with the FATHER, SON, AND SPIRIT (Session 1 & 3)

Have you ever wondered about the Trinity?  What does the Bible teach on it?  And how does the Trinity relate to our daily lives?  This course is a scripturally-based, book-guided exploration of these very topics.  We will consider the nature of the Trinity and its implications for our lives.

Teachers:  Bruce Chester & Bill Gore

Book:  Delighting in the Trinity by Michael Reeves

Room: 9A

Communing with God through FAMILY WORSHIP (Session 1 & 3)

Worship is more than music, more than something done on Sunday mornings, and more than something we do by ourselves.  The Bible teaches us that we worship Jesus with all of our lives (Romans 12:1).  And as parents, we are called to lead our children in worshipping Jesus.  But how do we do that?  Join us as we discover what biblical worship is, and how we can regularly worship Jesus with our families.

Teachers:  Joe & Sharon Francis, Danny & Jessica Burdine

Books:  Family Worship by Don Whitney and A Neglected Grace by Jason Helopoulos

Room: 8A

Communing with God with THE PURITANS (Session 2 & 4)

The Puritans were convinced that deep, daily communion with God is vital for every Christian.  This class will explore Puritan John Owen’s theology of communing with God, with modern day pastor-theologian Sinclair Ferguson serving as a guide.  In our study we will be reminded that, regardless of our circumstances, we can enjoy God and encourage others.

Teacher:  Bruce Chester

Books:  The Trinitarian Devotion of John Owen by Sinclair Ferguson

Room:  9A

Biblical Parenting (Session 2 & 4)

What practical advice does God’s Word provide about parenting? Much. We will explore scriptures, our personal actions, and weekly application. Time in our group will also be used to share experiences, questions, and prayer with each other. Our hope is to strengthen families and equip them to have the joy God has created in the family unit.

Teachers:  Joe & Sharon Francis

Room:  8A

Intimate Marriage Class (Parts 1 during Session 3, Part 2 during Session 4)

God’s original design was for us to experience an intimate marriage. Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve, couples often struggle to maintain this intimacy. This class will explore the Biblical concepts and principles related to experiencing true oneness. We will also review some of the practical materials that have been developed to assist couples in resolving the issues that inhibit intimacy in their marriage.

Teacher:  Dick Lehman

Room:  8B
