Better: A Study of Hebrews by Jen Wilkin

Leaders: Debbi Allan and Laura Kingsley | Links for the book: AmazonLifewayChristianbook

In this 10-session, verse-by-verse study of the Book of Hebrews, Jen Wilkin explores how God “provided something better for us” in the person of Jesus Christ (Heb. 11:40). Through stories of Old Testament heroes and practices, the author of Hebrews demonstrates how the new covenant is superior to the old and how Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of every promise. Explore familiar verses in context of the entire Bible, learning how to place your hope and faith in Christ alone.
Please order your copy and bring it with you the first week.

Revelation

Leader: Jennifer French | Links for the ESV Scripture Journal: AmazonCrosswayChristianbook

Although Revelation is a book which promises blessings to those who “read and keep” it, I have avoided it my whole Christian life because it seemed so hard. So why not study it together? Let’s dig into this book which promises blessing rather than a mere prediction of future events! This is a book which will encourage us to persevere, goad us to repent, and inspire us to worship. Plan on spending around an hour each week on homework. We will use the paperback ESV Scripture Journal.

Ruth and Esther by Kathleen Nielson (Knowing the Bible)

Leader: Mary Norton & Rebecca Redelman| Links for the book: AmazonLifewayChristianbook

The books of Ruth and Esther recount two of the most moving stories in all of Scripture: Ruth, a displaced widow in search of a new home and loving husband, and Esther, a courageous queen intent on saving her people from imminent destruction. This guide explains the biblical text with clarity and passion―leading us on a journey to discover the God who hears the cries of his people and remains faithful to his promises.

1 Peter: Life as an Outsider by Robert H. Thune (The Gospel-Centered Life in the Bible)

Leader: Karen Hitchcock | Links for the book: AmazonChristianbookNew Growth Press

Displaced—that’s what it feels like to be a Christian in an increasingly post-Christian world. You speak the language and understand the culture, yet don’t quite feel at home. How do you live as a Christian in a world that doesn’t share your convictions? Can you still hold firmly to biblical truth even as you love others? Robert H. Thune unpacks how the apostle Peter spoke to these issues in the first of his letters to first-century Christians. Thune’s study examines living a gospel-shaped life in a contrary culture. You will be encouraged by the generous grace of God and how he has called Christians to a living hope and a deep joy that can be found even in the midst of trials and opposition.

Spiritual disciplines are essential to a more vibrant spiritual life and knowing God more intimately. Instead of being just one more thing on your to-do list, you’ll find that these habits of faith can actually create more margin in your life—providing peace and rest as you walk closer with Jesus. Demystify spiritual disciplines and be empowered to practice them as you draw closer to God. Understand how spiritual disciplines strengthen the Body of Christ, both in communities and individual lives. Reframe your perspective on rest and renewal.
