our elders
The Board of Elders oversees the spiritual welfare of the Church and is responsible for doctrinal purity. Duties include:
- Advise and counsel small groups, committees, Ministry Directors and Pastoral Staff in matters of a spiritual nature
- Lead public services
- Evaluate the Teaching Pastor
- Provide spiritual oversight to Pastoral staff and ministry heads
- Evaluate direction of Church
- Recommend hiring of staff
- Measure needs for programs and assign priority
- Evaluate effectiveness of Church strategy
- Advise on disciplinary matters
- Be an example for the Church
- Teach and exhort
- Select Deacons/Deaconesses
- Pray for the Church and its congregation
There are eight to thirteen members - the Congregation elects nine of these members, another four may be chosen from the Pastors of the Church, by those elected.
Terms
Members: One to three years (no more than six consecutive years), staggered terms.
Pastors: One year, without limitation to consecutive years of service. Two of the elected members of the Elders shall also serve as members of the General Board.
