our history

Faith Church began as a home Bible study in 1978.  A two-month study on what a church should be, six people committed themselves to this weekly gathering.  As the group grew, the leaders decided it was time to find a larger place to meet.  In February of 1979, the group of about a dozen faithful attenders began meeting on Sunday nights in the old Town Hall building in Milford.  The rent was cheap: All they had to pay was the utilities. The sanctuary consisted of ten chairs, a coat rack, a podium, and a wastebasket; all of which were donated.  A corner of the room was partitioned off so that any children who came to church that week would have a place to meet for Sunday school while the service was going on.  It was a promising and exciting time in the life of the church.

It wasn’t always easy, however; nor was there a certainty of anyone showing up.  On May 20th, 1979, our church had its lowest ever recorded attendance: Two visitors, one regular attendee, and the Pastor.

But still, the mission went on.  In 1979 the group had their first Sunday morning worship service, which was held at the American Legion Hall.  The church became a part of The Evangelical Free Church of America, and was called, for the first time, Faith Evangelical Free Church.  It was also during this year that the church began meeting in the former Mulberry Church of Christ on U.S. 28; or as it’s now known, the old church next to the Chinese Buffet.

By 1981, attendance was more than 50 people each week.  The church held its first Christmas Cantata, titled “His Love Reaching.”  By 1984, attendance had grown to nearly 250 people each week, and it was becoming obvious that God was doing a great work through his people in Milford, OH.  That same year, the people of Faith EFC had a meeting during which they voted to buy nearly 15 acres off of Price Rd. in Miami Township.  The land was purchased, debt free, for $60,000 on April 23rd, 1984.

In 1985, the ministry continued.  In March, Faith EFC’s first church plant was commissioned; Trinity Evangelical Free Church.   Although the church plant involved some families from Faith, it didn’t slow down Faith’s growth.  Attendance grew to more than 300 that year, and a new location was sought to hold Sunday services while the new property was waiting to be developed.  The church moved to a facility at the intersection of Route 50 and U.S. 28, a spot currently known as “5 points.”

By 1987 two more church plants had been commissioned, and the new building was nearly completed on Price Rd.  On March 20th, 1988, Faith Evangelical Free Church moved from the “5 Points” location to the newly completed building, where the church still gathers today.  The following Sunday, the first Sunday service, with more than 500 people in attendance, was held.

On September 1st, 1995, Faith Evangelical Free Church welcomed Steve LoVellette as teaching pastor, along with his wife Barbara and their young family.  A new era had begun here at Faith.

Regardless of the year or date, God has continued to move in and work through the lives of his people here at, what is now most commonly called, “Faith Church.”  In 30 years, Faith has grown to an average weekly attendance of 1,300 people, and we have added roughly 30,000 square feet to our facility.   There have been nearly 3,000 services over almost 1,600 weeks. Five planted churches. Two granddaughter churches.  Dozens of small groups.  Thousands of hours of life classes and Bible studies.  More than $5 Million dollars spent on missions ministry, alone.   Yes, God is at work here, and has been for quite some time.

We thank God that He has allowed us to gather together for more than 30 years.  Although many of the faces have changed, we’re grateful that a broken people can be a part of a perfect work.  We, the Body of Christ, have the great privilege of sharing together in the mission put before us; to create more and better disciples here on this earth.
